Congratulations to Jacob Thornton, GIS Coordinator, for winning an award for his map for Best Data Integration at the Tennessee Geographic Information Council (TNGIC) annual conference in Chattanooga. Jacob won from among 35 entries.   Here’s the description of Jacob’s map: This map displays the area in and around Region 5 of the Tennessee Regional Medical Coordinator Center. Vanderbilt LifeFlight air medical transport staff requested a map showing the elevation of the area for the purpose of predicting where ground elevation would cause problems with radio coverage based on the position of their transmitter. The subsequent map includes county boundaries, capitol cities, LifeFlight bases, a digital elevation model, a hillshade, and a viewshed. The visible area from the transmitter tower was calculated based on the elevation model and was height adjusted to 200 feet above the ground level of its location.
